Vertically sliding walls open Bergmeisterwolf’s Italian villa extension to the garden

July 11, 2017 at 06:19PM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSXeiUrtXEAVertically sliding walls open Bergmeisterwolf’s Italian villa extension to the garden
Architecture studio Bergmeisterwolf has completed an extension to a house on the shores of Italy’s Lake Garda, featuring glazed walls that disappear into the ground to open the living area up to the garden.

The client for the project – an economist from Vienna – wanted an addition that would add value to and improve the functionality of a villa originally constructed in 1680.

Bergmeisterwolf, which is based in South Tyrol in the very north of Italy, was tasked with expanding the home’s floor area and optimising the connection between the internal spaces and the large garden.

«We needed to design an extension tuned with the existing building in a way that they both enhance each other,» said the studio.

A new single-storey volume constructed from black-dyed concrete adds a contemporary counterpoint to the existing house, which the client and his family use as a holiday home.

The textured surface of the concrete complements the plaster facades of the main house, while new windows, shutters and door frames are finished in a similar dark tone to provide further consistency between the two parts of the building.

Cecilie Manz designs minimal furniture to create «relaxed moments»

June 12, 2018 at 02:12PM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1k-kqeKVboCecilie Manz designs minimal furniture to create «relaxed moments»
Dezeen promotion: Danish designer Cecilie Manz has designed a collection of minimal furniture for Gloster, headquartered in Germany.

For Gloster’s new Atmosphere collection, Manz has created a series of dining and seating components inspired by the ways that couples, groups, friends and families interact in seating areas.

The series includes a chaise longue, two sofas, an ottoman, coffee table, two dining benches and two dining tables.

«Sliding down low in comfortable furniture, tucking up legs [and] resting side by side as stories are told and moments are shared» are the mannerisms that influenced the collection said Manz.

Sri Lanka — Heart of the Indian Ocean

May 24, 2020 at 06:30PM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0mbKsKG-ngSri Lanka — Heart of the Indian Ocean
DIRECTORS NOTES:
Hey everyone. Kyle Vollaers here.
Last year I had the pleasure of traveling around Sri Lanka for two months and got to fully immerse myself in the natural beauty and culture of this incredible country. From the monumental views of Sigiriya Rock to the rolling tee fields of Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka left me speechless every day.

After Sri Lanka went through such a huge tragedy last year, it was truly inspiring to experience so much positivity and hospitality from the local people. I am very much looking forward to returning to Sri Lanka once we can all travel again, and I really hope you make the trip out to this spectacular place yourself. I hope that this film can take you there, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Amanyangyun, Shanghai — Aman’s fourth resort in China | Aman

March 15, 2017 at 06:43PM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWLmO3APu5gAmanyangyun, Shanghai — Aman’s fourth resort in China | Aman
Amanyangyun, Shanghai (https://bit.ly/2Zd7Egm) is Aman’s fourth resort in China. This luxury destination is set just outside downtown Shanghai in an ancient camphor forest.

Amanyangyun 养云安缦. Meaning ‘nourishing cloud’, yangyun is a reference to expanding the ‘cloud’ of the mind with knowledge – a philosophy borne by the story of the ancient trees and dwellings at Amanyangyun’s heart.

This introspective retreat belies a remarkable tale of a forest transported, and a history preserved. Saved from demolition, these Ming- and Qing-dynasty dwellings have been reassembled, brick by ancient brick, to create peaceful, refined spaces. Light-filled with forest views, interiors are finished in wood, stone and bamboo. Amanyangyun’s camphor forest – parts of which date back a millennium – has a remarkable history.

Rescued, then relocated 700km from Jiangxi to Shanghai, thousands of sacred trees, famed for their calming scent, now flourish in their new home. Set amid trees and lakes, Amanyangyun is a seminal Shanghai destination – ideal for city escapes, wellness retreats or Aman Journeys exploring the best of China.

Peaceful and serene, it lies close to Shanghai culture, shopping and sights. Calling on Chinese tradition, the expansive Aman Spa is devoted to holistic health, fitness and wellbeing. From formal to cafe-style and alfresco, each of the six dining venues at Amanyangyun plays to its unique setting and ambience.

Dezeen x Samsung QLED TV Stand Design Competition

September 18, 2017 at 11:48AM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQtFlzjUBYQDezeen x Samsung QLED TV Stand Design Competition
Turkish designer Fulden Dehneli has been named the winner of Dezeen and Samsung’s QLED TV stand design competition, with her idea for a stand that doubles as an adaptable piece of furniture.

Dehneli’s RøR design beat projects by four other finalists – including one that placed the television in the middle of a plant pot and a sculptural piece made with tinted glass.

The competition asked entrants to rethink traditional television stands with a design for Samsung’s QLED TV, considering the device as not just a technology item but a lifestyle product. They were in the running for a prize pot of €30,000 (£27,675).

Dehneli was named the winner following a live judging that saw all five of the finalists present their designs in front of a jury at consumer electronics fair IFA in Berlin. Mock-ups were also made of the finalists’ concepts, and displayed within Samsung’s booth at the fair.

The judges chose RøR on the basis of its strong and original concept, which went well beyond conventional product design to explore new ways technology can be combined with consumers’ lifestyles.

April 13, 2018 at 02:05PM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkEPkKF0XGAZaha Hadid’s only house finally completes in Russian forest
New photographs and a movie reveal Zaha Hadid’s only completed private residence – a house in the Barvikha Forest near Moscow, for a man she called the «Russian James Bond».

The late Iraqi-British architect designed Capital Hill Residence for businessman and philanthropist Vladislav Doronin, who runs property companies Capital Group and OKO Group, and is also the owner of luxury hotel and resort brand Aman.

The house’s defining feature is a master suite set atop a slender concrete stalk that raises it high above the tree canopy.
